Earn the most points (3)

It is often smart to capture the most valuable piece. But not always! Sometimes, it is better to take another piece.

Look at the example.
The white queen can choose which piece to capture: the queen or the knight.
Should White take the queen, he will have 9 points more.
But only for a very short time. Just until… Black makes his move. Black will simply take the queen in return, earning 9 points as well.
So this is an even trade.
It’s better for White to capture the knight. There is no piece defending it!
White gets 3 points. Black gets nothing in return.
